IMWAYR: Valentine books and Go Set a Watchman

Monday Linky from Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers and Kathryn from Book Date!

I'm sure you're familiar with I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Spider?  Well, there is a text for Valentine's Day!  It's called There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Rose by Lucille Colandro. The plot structure is called a cumulative plot structure.  It's where events and characters keep repeating until it topples over.  It's also called a toppling story.

This tale is layered with Valentine elements such as roses, lace, candy and more.  It's cute and your students will be familiar with the structure.  If you're looking for I Know an Old Lady Who... books, Lucille Colandro has written a ton!

You've all seen Pete the Cat, right?  The books are by James Dean.  This new version, Pete the Cat Valentine's Day is Cool is by Kimberly and James Dean.
It's about Pete who's a little too cool for Valentine's Day. His friend Callie explains to him that its about honoring special people in his life.  He goes home and sees the error of his ways.  However, he forgets to make one special card...for Callie!
Cute book.  I think kids will like it.  You can check out the Pete the Cat website.  Lots of cool stuff there.

On an adult level, just finished reading Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee.  Conflicted.  I didn't find it very well written.  Serious editing needed. Sigh.
