The Crossover by Kwame Alexander
The novel is written is verse but in a hip-hop style. It is about the first time the boys are moving apart from each other as a result of growing up.
It's also about family. In spare language, you see the father and his relationship to the boys. I especially love the chapter entitled Questions. The book is interspersed with basketball rules such as the one above and definitions and how they connect to the story.
The story is compelling and rich. Kwame Alexander has an amazing facility with language. Boys will love it. And it's a fast read. Try it out.
